getscorebug.app

Scorebug’s website, with a page for every league and club

getscorebug.app is Scorebug’s website, with hundreds of pages about leagues, games, club gear and rivalries. When the app’s launch plans change, we change one setting and every download button on the site follows.

01Brief

The problem

With 19 leagues and 154 clubs, Scorebug covers a lot of things people search for, like “Leafs vs Canadiens”, “Oilers jerseys” or “can I track the CFL”, and each one needed a page. The launch plans also kept changing, and every out-of-date “Get it on Google Play” button told visitors something that wasn’t true.

The build

15PAGE DESIGNS

HUNDREDS OF PAGES

Dia. 01Leagues, club gear pages and rivalries are each designed once and filled in from our own data, so adding a league or a club adds its pages.
  1. A page for everything people search for

Each kind of page, like a league, a club’s gear or a rivalry, is designed once and filled in from our own list of leagues and clubs. Adding a club adds its page, and every one of those pages matches something people search for.

  2. One switch for every download button

The site was sending people to a Play Store listing that didn’t exist yet. Every store button led to Google’s “requested URL was not found” page, and search engines were being told the app was available. Now one setting has three values: waitlist, testing and live. The button in the menu, the top of the home page, the membership sign-up, the footer and what search engines are told all follow it, so one change updates the whole site.

  3. Affiliate links, clearly labelled

The gear pages carry Amazon Associates and partner links for 154 clubs, and the shop runs on Shopify. The affiliate disclosure is printed on the page itself, where people can see it.

  4. Easy for search engines to read

Every page tells search engines what it’s about, and the text gets to the answer in a few plain sentences.
